A couple weeks ago, Fawn and I hurried out our front door and almost tripped on a young, black and white "tuxedo" cat. She purred, slinked between our legs, and gave an approving meow as we pet her head. Fawn thought we should bring her inside, but being the cold-hearted bastard that I am, I said, "We can't put her in there. She'll rip up the furniture, knock down the potted plants, and pee on everything. If she's here when we get back, we'll deal with her."

A few hours later we pulled into our driveway and our headlights illuminated a patiently-waiting, black and white shape near the bushes. She joined us at the door, so we thought it'd be rude to not offer her a cup of tea or something.

She didn't want the tea, but she was hungry enough to eat the only thing we had in our fridge: rice. We ended up grabbing some catfood at a nearby convenience store and putting some newspapers on the laundry room floor. Immediately, she gobbled the food and politely gave us a present on the papers.

We couldn't bear to lock her out of our bedroom that night, so we risked tapeworm infections and flea infestations so she wouldn't be freaked out in the new environment.  (Yes, we're dirty people.)  All night, she slept with us - on our faces - and then she woke us up at sunrise to play with our faces.  She likes our faces.

After a week of posting "lost cat" fliers, taking her to the vet to check for a microchip, and giving her love, we decided to end the search.  Cat officially adopted.

Here's our flier.  To make sure some cat-eater didn't call us, saying, "Uhh...yeah...that's my cat in the photo.  Its name is 'Delicious,'" we chose to leave the physical details ambiguous beyond "black and white cat."

This is what she looks like after every new noise, after anything falls to the floor, or after we exit the shower.
So, what's her name?  "Penelope," a la Chuck Jones.
