Balboa Park: The Most Photogenic Place on Earth

On Saturday, Fawn and I spent some time at Balboa Park in San Diego. The campus is rich with elaborate architecture, colorful gardens...and weddings. Every time I turned my head, I spotted brides and grooms swapping vows or posing for awkward photos...

"Raise your head up a little...GREAT!"
*snap snap snap*
"Now kiss her! Let's see how much you're in love!"
*snap snap snap*
"Excellent! Now do that again, but this time do it on one leg! Yes! Hold it...hold it..."
*snap snap snap*

A peaceful pond. The perfect place for...

...the narcoleptic...

...and sketching!

Glen Keane Tortured by Gay Robot

Six Point Harness arranged to have Glen Keane visit their studio Thursday evening. Since Fawn works there, I was able to attend. (Thanks, Brendan!) As I walked in the door, I saw a small crowd of people gathered around the editor's computer. In front of the monitor was Mr. Keane, holding a beer and watching Six Point Harness's latest project, "Gay Robot" (which is an Adam Sandler production). He laughed a few times, but I couldn't help but wonder what was going through his mind as he watched a robot spout the words "man juice" and a drunk guy barf gallons of liquid onto a police officer.

Glen was very polite when the episode had finished, complimenting the character designs (created by Sah Tantivaranyoo) and describing some moments that had stood out to him. As low brow and politically incorrect as Gay Robot is, I will say that Six Point did a great job on the visual style.

After Glen had seen the studio's animation, he sat down in a chair and everyone gathered around him like it was children's story hour. Outside, the sun was setting and the lighting in the room became much more intimate. Glen described his career, his influences, and his future, although he did say that he wasn't certain what would follow Rapunzel...only that he wanted to continue learning and growing. It was a memorable experience.

Below is some Rapunzel fan art that Fawn and I made for him...

He ended the evening by signing books, drawing sketches, and posing for pics. Thanks for the visit, Glen...and thanks to Brendan for making it happen!
